United States Civil War Collection, Featuring Soldiers' Diaries
United States Civil War Collection consists of 8 diaries from the mid 1860s by soldiers with connections to Michigan, regimental or residence and represent diverse military experiences, ranging from a musician to a prisoner of war situation. The handwritten originals have full transcriptions that are searchable and coded for browsing by categories: Battles, Clothing, Death and Casualties, Desertion, Food, Health and Medicine, Leisure, Military Units and Naval Vessels, Money, Music, People, Places, Religion, Transportation, Verse and Drawings. Letters and photographs are in process of becoming part of the collection.

Caroline Bartlett Crane Collection, Everyman’s
House
A national competition winner for an efficient home design for the common
man in the 1920s
This digitized subcollection is an interesting mix of documents and images about
the winning design conceived and built in Kalamazoo by Caroline Bartlett Crane,
a prominent social activist and minister in Kalamazoo’s early history.
Includes material about housing in her 1920s book, Everyman’s House, photographs
and design plans for the house, which was a winner of Herbert Hoover’s "Better
Homes of America" campaign. See
